The Plant A Donation program at the Cloud Forest School allows friends and supporters from all over the world to contribute to Cloud Forest restoration. Every year, our school plants hundreds of native tree species in the reforestation areas on our 106-acre campus. To date, our students, staff, and volunteers have already planted 11,000 saplings–and there’s still much work to be done!
Each sapling, once germinated and transplanted, must be tended and cared after for its first four years. With the attention and care of Milton, our Land Stewardship Coordinator, our reforestation areas are steadily reclaiming pastureland and transforming into a rich and healthy secondary forest. Simultaneously, our students learn about the importance of reforestation and participate in every aspect of it themselves as stewards of their school’s property. Each student plants dozens of trees throughout their years at the Cloud Forest School.
If you are interested in supporting our reforestation projects and the subsequent environmental education and land stewardship efforts happening here at the Cloud Forest School, we encourage you to make a gift to support our program. Here’s how your gift works:
- $15 Plants a tree
- $75 ensures that the tree survives its first four critical years. Some of this money will purchase shovels for the children to dig up and cut back the fast-growing overpowering grasses around the seedling (we use no pesticides). Some of it will pay for water in the dry season, perhaps even a hose if the seedlings are close enough to a campus faucet.
- $125 will do all of the above and help to purchase environmental curricula for use in our classrooms. Because all of our teachers teach environmental education, we buy materials in many subject areas (e.g., math, civics, art) that instruct in that area, but do so within the context of environmental education.
